Allergic sinusitis occurs when there is pain in forehead, cheeks, around eyes and nose. It blocks the nasal cavities and does not let the mucus to drain freely. It occurs in spring season when flowers are at full bloom. The main causes are pollen of flowers, dust, pollution, rage wood etc. These particles are transported by air and enter into human body while inhaling air for breathing. These airborne substances unclog the nasal passages and sinuses resulting in sinusitis. A person experiences the symptoms which include bad breath, watery eyes, sore teeth and excessive sneezing. Postnasal drip, loss of taste and smell are some other problems that are being faced by the sufferers.

It is important to note that the allergic sinusitis should be healed as early as possible. If one does not take immediate steps to cure, then one has to handle the other allergies also. Allergic sinusitis can be lessened with natural irrigation method. Neti or saline nasal spray is very much effective and provides an astounding relief too. It cleans the sinus passages and reduces the inflammation. This neti has been one of the effective treatments for many years and cured sufferers who had experienced this allergic sinusitis for a long time.

If the allergic sinusitis is severe, then it is better to consult a health care provider for treatment. Some people take cold as a synonym of allergic sinusitis. They are wrong at this. An allergic sinusitis patients have to suffer from congestion, itchy eyes and runny nose and that usually are not symptoms in cold.

Various precautions must be taken to keep distance from allergic sinusitis. A person can use air purifier filler for keeping the house neat and clean. Use filter vacuums to collect dust because vacuums release 60% of collected dust. Also, one should keep the family pets out of the bedroom because animal's hair is also one of the prime causes of allergic sinusitis.

If you have allergic sinus it is important to drink liquids as much as possible. Liquid intakes make your body hydrate and also provide the balanced functioning of mucous membrane and sinuses. Moreover, take immediate bath after gardening for removing the pollen from the body.

Chronic Sinus Infection Symptoms - Watch Out For Chronic Sinus Infection Symptoms

Kill Your Sinus NOW!!!

Would You Like To Know How To Treat Your Sinusitis Step By Step? Just Come In!

Chronic sinusitis is inflammation of the air-filled spaces called sinuses behind the nose, forehead, cheeks, and eyes, which continues for a long time or keeps coming back. The researchers have distinguished chronic sinusitis as sinusitis that lasts three months or longer, from acute sinusitis, which lasts only a month or even less. According to them the cause of acute sinusitis is a bacterial infection. Usually chronic sinus infection symptoms may last for 3 months or even more. Often, the chronic inflammation may lead to, small growths in the nasal passages called polyps which obstruct breathing.

The common chronic sinus infection symptoms are:

  • Cough
  • Facial pain
  • Nasal congestion
  • Nasal drainage (yellow, green, thick)
  • Headache
  • Pain in the mouth or teeth
  • Chronic fatigue

Tests

The health care provider will examine you and tap lightly on your face over your sinuses. This method is called percussion. It may reveal tenderness in the area. Sinuses glow if normal when light shines directly onto them. If there is sinusitis, the sinuses will not glow. Other tests that may be done are Sinus x-rays, CT scan of the sinuses and MRI of the sinuses.

Treatment for chronic sinus infection symptoms

Antibiotics and over-the-counter decongestants are widely used fro treating chronic sinus infection symptoms. Antibiotics may not be effective in chronic sinusitis because they target bacteria, not fungi. The antibiotic treatment usually takes 3 - 4 weeks. The over-the-counter medications may offer some relief from pain, but they do not have any effect on the inflammation. Clean and drain sinuses works in some cases. Oral pills may provide relief from stuffy nose and some nasal sprays can help in relieving chronic sinus infection symptoms caused by allergies. Patients of chronic sinus infection symptoms can find relief through Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (ESS). This is a noninvasive outpatient procedure. The study results suggest that ESS helps to reduce dependence on antibiotics and antihistamines for managing the symptoms. Deviated septum and nasal obstruction may be repaired surgically to prevent chronic sinus infection symptoms.

Chronic Sinus Disease - Know About Chronic Sinus Disease

Kill Your Sinus NOW!!!

Chronic sinus disease is the disease of the sinus where the condition lasts for more than eight weeks. When symptoms persist beyond 30 days, the condition is defined as chronic sinusitis or chronic sinus disease.

Causes

Structural obstruction, deviated septum, allergies, fungal infections and polyposis are some of its causes. Children have frequent upper respiratory tract infections known as URI. It may occur six to eight times in a year and it is difficult to distinguish recurrent URI from chronic sinus disease. When URI symptoms last for more than 10 days but less than 30 days, with high fever and nasal discharge, it is defined as acute sinusitis. Coughing and headache, nasal obstruction, fatigue, irritability and bad breath may be present.

Treatment of chronic sinus disease

Antibiotics are used in most cases of sinusitis. This is continued up to 4 weeks or even up to 6 weeks. In some resistant cases topical steroids may also be used to reduce mucosal edema. Decongestants have also been found helpful in adults with ostial and nasal patency. When prolonged medical management fails and when the chronic sinus disease recurs after stopping the therapy, a sweat test is done to rule out cystic fibrosis. Steroids are used in some cases to reduce the swelling in the area. Volume nasal rinses are also recommended to clean and remove the infected secretions that showed good results. Topical nasal steroid sprays are used in decreasing the inflammation and swelling in the nasal areas. Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (ESS) is found to be a safe and effective solution for chronic sinus disease in children. The children with immunodeficiency and cystic fibrosis were found to require the procedure to be done multiple times. After the surgery a full course of antibiotics is used till the crusting in the nasal cavity stops. A simple avulsion of the nasal portion of the polyp is done endoscopically.

Kill Your Sinus NOW!!!

Would You Like To Know How To Treat Your Sinusitis Step By Step? Just Come In!

About 32 million people are estimated to be suffering from chronic sinusitis. Millions of dollars are being spent on medications to get relief from sinus symptoms. Generally sinusitis is caused by allergies, cold or infections of the sinus area. Even though many over the counter sinus drugs are available it is better to seek medical advice for better treatment and prevention. The usual bacterial sinus infection symptoms are swelling in the area around the nose and blockage of sinus passages and headache.

Causes of bacterial sinus infection symptoms

Polluted air, allergens, food allergy and smoke that block the nasal passages can cause sinusitis. A growth or tumor may cause the blockage which can be removed by surgery. Cocaine and such drugs taken through the nasal channels can also cause the infection. Sinus sprays can kill the bacteria and the microbes that cause the bacterial sinus infection symptoms. The sprays have the risk of becoming addictive. Lack of humidity can damage the small hairs called cilia in the nasal passage resulting in the mucus stagnating in that area and allowing bacteria to grow and start an infection.

Bacterial sinus infection symptoms

If sinusitis persists for less than a month it is acute sinusitis. If it continues for more than three months, it becomes chronic sinusitis. Most of the infections are caused by viruses. A few cases of infections are caused by bacteria also. Allergies and environmental irritations cause non infectious sinusitis. The patient may respond with over the counter medications or a longer course and in some cases need physical draining which requires hospitalization. Severe headache, red eyes or painful eyes or even double vision or temporary vision loss are some of the symptoms of acute sinusitis. There may be fatigue, fever or lack of response to decongestants in some others.

Treatment

Expectorants thin the mucus and expel it from the lungs and respiratory passages. They also enhance the drainage of the mucus from sinuses. Over the counter antibiotic medications can also help in reducing the bacterial sinus infection symptoms. Acetaminophen can also help in reducing pain and fever. Antibodies can continue till 21 days in certain cases. If the patient does not respond to this then surgical procedure needs to be done.

Antibiotics & Sinus Infections - How Antibiotics Help in Treating Sinus Infection

Kill Your Sinus NOW!!!

Would You Like To Know How To Treat Your Sinusitis Step By Step? Just Come In!

Majority of cases have shown that antibiotics are great in treating sinus infections, but have little or no effect on viruses. Only bacterial infections of the sinus cavities must be treated with antibiotics. That is why The Center for Disease Control & Prevention advises strongly against taking antibiotics for a viral sinus infection. When the bacteria begin to grow fungus taking antibiotics could aggravate the problem. The commonly used antibiotics for treating sinus infection are amoxicillin, azithromycin or penicillin.

Disadvantage of antibiotics in treating sinus infection

Because antibiotics makes the patient feel better fast, people often tend to ask doctors for antibiotics as a quick fix remedy. The prescription is given without making a diagnosis for differentiation between the root cause like bacteria, virus and fungus. The patient often stops taking the prescribed antibiotic without completing the course leading to more problems. Taking the prescription as per advice will reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance.

Antibiotics in treating sinus infection are often used for relief from the symptoms. If it started from a virus, the infection will stay. This can lead to a repetition of the course due to infection within two or three months, leading to chronic sinusitis. In some cases, it will dry up the sinus mucus preventing it from thinning and draining on its own. The sinus mucus moistened enough to become thin and flow out. Allowing it to dry up can make the mucus to get muddy again when it gets a little moisture and bacteria and fungus allow the infection to settle in.

The antibiotics in treating sinus infection are effective as they can kill these bacterial types. Amoxicillin (Amoxil) is used as first choice in treating uncomplicated acute sinus infections. If the patient is allergic to penicillin cefaclor loracarbef clarithromycin), sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim may be used as first choices. If there is no improvement in the patient after five days of treatment with amoxicillin, the patient may be switched to one of the above drugs or amoxicillin-clavulanate. For antibiotics to be effective it should be continued for a minimum of 10 to 14 days.

Some irritants cause allergies and infection in the nasal channels and blockage of the drainage of sinus fluid. Some structural abnormalities within the nasal passages may also be responsible for blocking of the drainage system. The deviated septum the structure dividing the nasal passage into two sides is an example. Low immune function can also lead to infections of the nasal channels. Infections like HIV/AIDS or gastroesophagal reflux disease and non-allergic rhinitis.

Prevention

Strengthening the immune system is the best way to prevent sinusitis infection. Healthy food and supplements can reduce the probability of the occurrence of sinus infection and the associated dizziness. Equipment like proper air conditioning can also lessen the severity of infection providing the right temperature. Symptoms of allergic sinusitis

The most common symptoms caused by allergy are sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, red watery eyes, itchy ears, cough, asthma, wheezing and so on. There may be a greenish discharge from the nose, sore throat or bad breath accompanied by loss of smell or taste. Dark circles under the eyes due to increase in blood flow in the sinus area. Usually preceded by a cold, it may persist for more than 5 to 7 days turning into acute sinusitis.

Allergy problems are due to the overactive immune system that overproduces gamma globulin that fights bacterial infections. The doctor first evaluates the history of the patient's allergic problems. After doing the physical examination certain tests will be performed. The treatment and medications will follow depending upon the discussion about the allergens and also the environmental problems.

Allergens causing sinusitis

The allergens causing problems may be dust, mites, animals, pollen or cockroach. Foods also a problem sometimes but they occur mostly in children and will subside as they grow older. Problems caused by allergic foods include eczema and asthma. Some medical conditions like thyroid problems and pregnancy also cause allergic sinusitis.

Treatment of allergic sinusitis

Various medications are used for treating allergy problems. Antihistamines can block the histamine secretion by allergens. Those available over the counter may cause drowsiness so driving should be avoided after taking these. But prescription drugs like Allegra, Claritin and Zyrtec do not cause drowsiness and most of them also come with a decongestant. Decongestants and nasal sprays are useful and ease the nasal block. They also contain mucus thinners and antihistamines with combination of drugs like aspirin. Allergy shots are given by doctors to reduce the symptoms as they have been found to be effective in people with cat allergies. Allergy shots with the allergens causing the problems are given in injections that are less painful. These shots are continued with regular frequency even up to five years as they take a long time to work. The amount injected will be increased each time usually every three or four weeks.

Kill Your Sinus NOW!!!

Would You Like To Know How To Treat Your Sinusitis Step By Step? Just Come In!

All of us have hollow cavities around the nose in the cheek bones called sinuses. They produce and send mucus into the nose through small channels. Inflammation of the lining of sinus blocking the normal drainage of mucus in the sinuses is known as Acute Sinusitis. Sometimes it becomes chronic lasting for months. The infection spreads to the space around the eye, into the blood and bones or even into the brain.

Causes of acute sinusitis

They are usually caused by infection; most common of them is frontal sinus, affecting the cheekbones. Allergies may cause inflammation and block the nasal passages. If the wall between the nostrils called septum is corked it may block the sinus passage. Growth of tissues called nasal polyps may restrict the nasal channels. Some other medical conditions like cystic fibrosis, HIV and other diseases may cause nasal blockage.

Symptoms of acute sinusitis

The common symptoms are blocked nose or and throbbing pain in the infected area. High fever may also develop for some. Difficulty in breathing through the nose and in some cases reduced sense of smell may also occur. Sometimes there is a runny nose with greenish or yellow discharge caused by the infected mucus or pus. When the thick mucus blocks the channels the pain and tenderness may worsen. Headache, cough, pressure in the ears, toothache and bad breath are other symptoms.

Treating acute sinusitis

Normally there is no need for any treatment of this condition. The immune system will deal with the viral infection and the symptoms disappear within a week. If the symptoms do not clear within a week, antibiotics may be prescribed by doctors. Pain killers may be used for pain relief. Nasal sprays may help in clearing the congestion in the nasal passage. Traditionally acute sinusitis is treated with steam inhalation. A Warm shower is also advised for breathing in the moist and warm air. Applying warm and damp towels can ease facial pain.

Prevention

Avoiding polluted air, reducing contact with people with cold and reducing alcohol consumption are helpful.
